Artwork by Rouch
presents a collaborative effort with
AIAA

The February 2009 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Kids Club along with Artwork by Rouch accomplished another spectacular event in teaching our youth a mini Engineering Acquisition Art Project at University of Arizona Kuiper Space Sciences building.

Last year (see AIAA Tucson article) Artwork by Rouch developed, designed, and orchestrated the same 3 hour program, but fine tuned the project by randomly designating a team player to be the Program Manager, as well as introducing the concept of customer requirement creep. The kids had a blast. Sara Falconer, AIAA Pre-College Outreach Chairperson, coordinated for 26 kids ranging in age from 8 to 12 years to accept the challenge and compete with one another. The 26 kids were separated in to 6 teams, and each team was given the same set of requirements, materials, and schedule constraints in designing an artistic representation of the Four Forces of Flight. It was the Program Managers responsibility to understand their role and to keep the team on schedule, ensure that their artwork met all the design requirements, and lastly deliver a speech to the customer about their final product after the deliverable.

The kids executed the project with ease and were able to meet and exceed all expectations. Their artwork as well as last years artwork for a total of 11 pieces will be on display at Tucson International Modelplex Park (TIMPA), a regional radio control site located in Tucson, Arizona from April 17 19, 2009. University of Arizona will be conducting their Design/Build/Fly Competition during the same time. The artist from Artwork by Rouch, Michelle Rouch is pleased to have donated her time in supporting such engineer/art hybrid events and looks forward in offering her services to AIAA in the future.
